On February 20, Baseball America posted its Los Angeles Dodgers top 10 prospects list, and Alan Matthews held a chat (subscriber only). No Valley League alums were named in the Dodgers' top 30, let alone their top 10, but one player was mentioned in the chat: Bridger Hunt (Staunton). I've covered Hunt earlier in this blog here.
On to the question:
"Q: Richard from British Columbia asks: What sort of tools does Bridger Hunt have? His performance in low A as a 9th rounder drafted before his 21st birthday seems pretty noteworthy.
A: Alan Matthews: Hunt is a real gamer, who did indeed overachieve after signing for $60,000 out of Missouri State in 2006. His tools are below-average across the board and he profiles as a organizational player with a chance to develop into a utility man with plus makeup."
It's great when the question and answer cover the information that every fan needs to know- school, draft position, and age.... and some extra info, like draft bonus ($60,000! Don't I wish I could get a bonus like that... and it's a relatively small one for the draft).
Negative: Below-average tools. Positive: Plus makeup, and "gamer." We'll see how he develops.
