Patrick Wingfield (Winchester 2005-2006), a junior, is off to a solid start this year for the #5 ranked University of Virginia. (That ranking is Baseball America's, by the way.)
Wingfield is hitting .377/.438/.506 for the 21-4 Cavaliers. After his freshman year, Wingfield hit .194/.264/.269 for the Winchester Royals, but he improved hugely the next season with the Royals, hitting .331/.382/.459 in 2006. Talk about a turnaround!
By the way, I hope to attend the Miami-Virginia game in Charlottesville on Sunday, when I'll be able to check out many Valley League Alums, like Wingfield, Mike Mitchell (Staunton 2006), Jake Rule (Staunton 2006), and Miami players I've covered before in this space, like Yonder Alonso (Luray 2006) and Blake Tekotte (Woodstock 2006) (just to name a few).
