#6 Hitting Season in the Valley: Jose Cueto

#6: Jose Cueto, Winchester, from Virginia Tech

Jose_cueto_2007_winchester Cueto, a rising senior at Virginia Tech, was one of Winchester's top hitters this summer. He was a mainstay in the Royals' lineup, hitting 328/418/537 over 134 at-bats. He added 22 runs, 24 RBIs, 8 doubles, a triple, and 6 home runs. His BB/K ratio was also very strong, as he finished with 20 walks and 24 strikeouts.

He tied for the third most home runs in the league, tied for 8th place with 72 total bases, finished 10th in on-base percentage, and 4th in slugging percentage.

Jose hit better with wood this summer, ironically, than he has in his three years at Tech with aluminum:

Freshman: 275/320/407 in 182 at-bats
Sophomore: 265/375/455 in 189 at-bats
Junior: 260/328/365 in 181 at-bats

It will be very interesting to see if Jose breaks out this spring in his last go-round in college ball; maybe his success in the Valley will lead to more success in Blacksburg!  (Winchester picture courtesy of Kenneth Hockin)
