#8 Starting Pitcher: Chad Sherman

Chad_sherman_panola_head_2007 Our #8 starter was not invited to the Valley League All-Star game, much to the chagrin of one of the Staunton Brave faithful. (For the record, when I asked Chad about it late in the season, he shrugged it off as no big deal.) Whether he received recognition or not, Sherman pitched very well for Staunton in 2007. He finished 5-2, 2.47, with a 1.10 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, 9.9 K/9, and .191 opponent's batting average. Sherman finished 7th in the league in ERA and 4th in opponent's batting average.

Sherman, a rising sophomore at Panola Junior College, had an excellent freshman season in 2007. He went 5-5, 1.90, with a 1.06 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9, and 8.0 K/9 in 66 1/3 innings. He was selected to the Region XIV Eastern Texas Athletic Conference All-Conference Team (That's a mouthful!). He has also been chosen to participate in the Texas-New Mexico Junior College Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game at Baylor University October 6-7 (another mouthful!).
