Wow! In a season that has already seen Chris Carter, Brad Ziegler, Chris Perez, Brian Bocock, Clay Timpner, Carlos Guevara, Nick Stavinoha, Brett Gardner, and Daniel Murphy make their major league debuts, it's still sweet every time a former Valley Leaguer makes the majors.
The latest, and 10th, in this very-successful season, player to receive THE phone call is Cliff Pennington (Harrisonburg 03). Pennington was a first round draft pick of the Oakland A's in 2005 out of Texas A&M. This year, his 4th in the A's system, has been his best. At Double-A Midland and Triple-A Sacramento, Pennington hit 280/404/352 in 440 at-bats. His BB/K ratio is 93/55, and he's added 31 stolen bases in 37 attempts.
Cliff made his major league debut on Tuesday, August 12, and went 0-3 against Tampa Bay.
Congratulations, Cliff!
10 in one season is something special and I am sure the fans of each of these ten appreciate your efforts of keeping tabs on so many VBL alum. I know is was pretty cool for me to see my 1ST Wrangler in my time in the Valley make it! Keep up the great work..
