Our #6 starter in the league, and 3rd Winchester Royal on this list, is Vanderbilt's Taylor Hill.
Hill, over 9 games (8 starts, although his relief appearance lasted 5 innings), finished 6-1, 2.53, with a 1.182 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9, and 10.0 K/9 over 53 1/3 innings. He ended the year 7th in the league in ERA, tied for 2nd in wins, tied for 7th in strikeouts, and 7th in opponent's batting average. He was also named to the All-League 2nd team as a starting pitcher.
His best two appearances were a start against New Market on June 28, and the marathon relief appearance on July 5 against Waynesboro. Against New Market, Hill threw 6 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 8. Against the Generals, he threw 5 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 4.
For Vanderbilt as a true freshman in 2007, Taylor went 5-2, 4.60, with a 1.40 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9, and 8.4 K/9 in 47 innings pitched. Quite good for a freshman in a top-notch program! Well done, Taylor!
