Marist's Eric Alessio, our #8 starter in the league, was one of the reasons Fauquier went from 14-30 in 2007 to 27-17 in 2008.
Over 8 starts and 49 innings pitched, Alessio went 3-3, 2.57, with a 1.143 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9, 5.5 K/9, and .247 batting average against. He finished 8th in the league in ERA. Ertic, like JUstin Collop, did not pitch in the playoffs
He was dominant in two consecutive starts in the middle of the season (on July 3rd against Harrisonburg, and July 11 against New Market), going a combined 15 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 unearned runs, 2 walks, and striking out 7. He also threw very well on July 26 against Luray, throwing 6 shutout innings while allowing 3 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 8.
Eric has thrown a limited amount of innings in his first two years at Marist. As a freshman in 2007, Eric went 1-2, 8.22, with 1 save, a 1.83 WHIP, 4.1 BB/9, and 6.5 K/9 in only 15 1/3 innings. The next year, he finished 1-3, 4.13, with 2 saves, a 1.59 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9, and 7.4 K/9 in 32 2/3 innings.
I for one will be watching to see how Eric translates his success from the summer to aluminum bats and college ball. Congratulations on the excellent year, Eric!
