Our third reliever to make the top ten list is Kaleb Fleck, a sophomore righthander from Pitt Johnston.
Kaleb toiled in Waynesboro last summer, where he posted excellent numbers coming out of the pen. He finished 1-2, 1.80, with 2 saves, a 0.920 WHIP, 1.1 BB/9, and 11.2 K/9 in 25 innings. That ridiculously low BB/9 comes from walking only 3 batters (against 31 strikeouts) in those 25 innings. (His BB/9 is the lowest of all pitchers I surveyed for this list, by the way.)
I ran into Generals assistant coach John Cullen the other day, and he told me that Kaleb can run his fastball up to 93 mph, and Cullen feels he could possibly throw even harder. That's what kind of stuff this young man has on the mound.
For the Pitt Johnston Mountain Cats in his freshman year, Fleck went 6-3, 5.36, with 1 save, a 1.57 WHIP, 3.2 BB/9, and 6.4 K/9 in 50 1/3 innings.
Kaleb is returning to Waynesboro in a few months as well- role to be determined. Nice summer, Kaleb!
The Fleckster is putting up some great stats now and can't wait to see what he does when he gets here in the summertime.
