Continuing our list of top hitters, James Roche is the Valley League's #11 man with a big stick. (A little hint from ATVL: Roche is the first of three Cardinals on this list.)
A junior at Bentley, Roche hit 296/377/556 in 42 games and 135 at-bats for the Cardinals. He added 27 runs, 31 RBI, 8 doubles, 9 home runs, 14 stolen bases, and a 15/51 BB/K ratio. He finished tied for 4th in the league in home runs.
At Division II Bentley University, Roche has also hit quite well. He's terrorized Northeast-10 Conference pitching in both of his college seasons so far. As a freshman, he hit 320/396/550 in 50 games and 220 at-bats, with 6 doubles, 5 triples, 10 home runs, 36 runs, and 36 RBI. His BB/K ratio was 25/40.
As a sophomore, he hit a whopping 342/403/521 in 47 games and 190 at-bats, with 29 runs, 32 RBI, 11 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, and a 16/35 Bb/K ratio.
While Division II and Division III players do not often garner a huge amount of draft interest, James certainly helped himself with his stellar Valley League campaign. Perhaps he'll get a look with another solid college season!
