The Staunton Braves had a rocking lineup in 2009, with a lineup that raked from top to bottom (I'm mixing metaphors here, but just deal with it).
One of the main cogs in said lineup was a junior from Georgia Southern, Kyle Blackburn.
Kyle finished 10th in the league in batting average, and in his 37 games and 120 at-bats, ended up with a line of 325/408/483. He scored 21 runs and knocked in 18, hit 8 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, and had a very solid 18/28 BB/K ratio.
Kyle has also proven himself to be an excellent hitter for Georgia Southern. In his solid freshman year, Kyle hit 288/390/517, with 6 doubles and 7 home runs in 44 games and 118 at-bats. In his sophomore year, he improved to 291/404/506, with 5 doubles and 4 home runs in 34 games and 79 at-bats. His BB/K ratio was 14/19. He made a large leap into his junior year, though, when he hit 333/451/763 in 36 games and 93 at-bats. He hit only 2 doubles, but that's because the ball was going over the fence, and he ended up with 12 home runs. His BB/K ratio was 18/23.
When your lowest OBP in three years is .390, you know this kid can get on base! Hopefully Kyle can have an even better year as a senior, and play pro ball somewhere!
